Transformative art is a process of creative therapeutic expression in whatever medium the artist chooses or feels inspired to work in, where by responding to an inner calling to acknowledge one's own inner landscape of deep and often hidden, sometimes dark and often light feelings asking or begging to be seen. This movement to express is an energy of power that requires release. It's best to feel through these feelings or they can lodge in the body showing up in a myriad of mental, emotional, physical or energetic symptoms. Art is a way to heal and deal with yourself. Artistic abilities are not required.
Expressive Art therapy integrates all the arts in a safe, non judgemental setting to facilitate personal growth and healing. Each day while at the Ashram I would retreat to my little apartment after morning meditations, seva (work) was done and morning wisdom school teachings were complete; expectantly I would wait in front of the blank whiteness of my journal page, remembering and feeling into the dreams of the past night or a recent atmanology session with Shunyamurti or RadaMa. An image or feeling would begin to emerge its way out of me wanting to be born; I would begin to sketch, little by little something would appear, revealing its form. Patience and Present, I felt deeply content.
Color would be added, watercolor was my usual go to. Sometimes varied collage papers of different textures or patterns wanted to be used lending a 2 dimensional aspect, then other decorative add-ons like glitter and beads would be the finishing touches. I knew when a piece was done. It felt Good.I felt full. This process supported me in feeling integrated and balanced. This deep excavation work opened a way of resurrecting and releasing all kinds of goodies of darkness and light. My soul experienced such joy at these inventions!
This type of Art expression isn't about a product that looks good, it's more about hearing a voice from deep within then obeying its divine guidance to unravel and understand yourself. Its an agreement made long ago to “Know Thyself”
Many of my art creations show up as unclothed beings, I am comfortable with this, accepting its message. I feel it reveals an attitude of openness and honesty, a result of thinking that is in alignment to my own thoughts and actions. Symbolically it feels to be revealing a state of consciousness I am exploring.
Image One: “Ultimate Healing” By Bhavani ( Mary)

She stands revealing her many scars of experiences and learning. Is she young or old, who knows? She is smiling, although her form is bruised revealing scars of traumas past, now adorn her body as tattoos.. She wears a radiant crown of fiery power, a cloak of royal belonging flung back and open revealing her openness and courage.. The pink satin ties decorating her wrists and ankles formerly chains of illusion now are just pretty ribbons of decoration..The neon sign blinks on and off “Nice Job God” Things considered unbearable by the egoic mind to the Divine Decider are just another opportunity to play in the vast cosmos of experience. The flowers dance below her all the while singing “Love it all” everything in life is a blessing for the Soul to experience. So strange and so sublime. Gold is her true Nature. The last bits of the fragmented self fall away, dissolving into the ground to become compost for the worms! The cycle continues.
Image Two: “Cutting Ties” By Bhavani (Mary)

In this Sacred initiation She stands firmly, naked her head shaven, her eyes closed, flames engulf her, yet she is unburned. The many voices and memories emanate from her mind, surrounding her like ghostly bubbles, they are being released into the ethers. Her true heart is the holder of Joy. From her belly she listens to the truth. On her left side she bears a large scar, a mark of her journey into emotions and trauma; its gift is Golden, it is Wisdom...In one hand she holds a knife, in the other a ribbon, symbolically she is cutting ties to all illusions that have kept her bound from Truth.
Image Three: “ Samadhi” By Bhavani (Mary)

Here She sits in repose resting upon the Lotus, in a state of Bliss and Enlightenment having reached the highest state of consciousness. The circle of light surrounding her head represents the radiant aura of her Divine attainment. She is the wise Sage.
Image Four: “ Buddha Ease” By Bhavani (Mary)

In luminous vividity she exists in a state of Emptiness; her mind undefiled by attacking thoughts and endless ruminations of banter and discourse. This is her natural state of being. This Liberation from the mind is no longer fueled and controlled by the ego that hates silence. It withers and dies.
“Art is my cure to all madness, sadness and loss of belonging in the world and through it I walk myself home.” Nikki Rowe
“At the deepest level, the creative process and the healing process arise from a single source. When you are an artist, you are a healer, a wordless trust of the same mystery is the foundation of your work and its integrity.” Rachel Naomi Remen, M.D.
“Creativity healed me. I don't know that I could think of any word that I get more inspired by than the word healing.” Sark
